The Phone Calls I'm Always Happy My Clients Make

My clients almost always start the same way.

"I'm so sorry to bother you..." "This is probably a silly question..." "I hope I'm not interrupting you..."

I smile every time because those are exactly the phone calls I want them to make.

I'd much rather my clients call me with a question than spend hours wondering what to do on their own.

Many people assume my job is finished once they receive their confirmation email. The truth is, that's when some of my most important work begins. Sometimes it's answering a question, solving a problem, or simply giving someone the confidence to enjoy their vacation without worrying about every little detail.

Here are a few phone calls I'll never forget.

"I Left an Important Travel Document at Home."

My client had already arrived at their destination when they realized an important travel document was still sitting on the kitchen counter at home. You can imagine the sinking feeling.

Instead of trying to figure it out alone, they called me. I was able to locate the document and email it to them so they had what they needed and could continue enjoying their vacation. The relief in their voice said it all.

Could they have eventually found another solution? Maybe. But they didn't have to spend valuable vacation time trying to solve it on their own. Sometimes, simply knowing you have

someone to call makes all the difference.

"I've Never Flown Through This Airport Before."

Not everyone travels several times a year. For some people, a large airport can feel overwhelming before the vacation has even begun.

I've worked with clients who were nervous about making a connection or finding their next gate. Before they left home, we pulled up airport maps together and talked through where they would land, what signs to follow, where to find their next gate, and what to expect along the way.

By the time travel day arrived, they knew exactly what to expect. Instead of worrying about finding their way, they were able to focus on the excitement of the adventure ahead. Sometimes confidence comes from simply knowing what to expect.

"Is This Flight Too Early?"

This is one of the questions I answer all the time, especially for my cruise clients.

On paper, an early morning flight home can look like the perfect choice. You get home sooner, and sometimes it's even a little less expensive.

But I've also seen ships arrive late because of weather, customs take longer than expected, and unexpected traffic slow the drive to the airport.

When clients ask me which flight they should book, I'm not just looking at the schedule. I'm thinking about everything that has to happen between the ship and the gate.

Sometimes the best flight isn't the earliest one. It's the one that lets you end your vacation without watching the clock every minute.

I'd much rather have my clients enjoying one last cup of coffee before heading to the airport than running through the terminal wondering if they're going to make their flight. Sometimes peace of mind is worth a little extra time.

"Will This Vacation Work for Me?"

Every traveler deserves to feel confident before they leave home.

I've worked with clients who use wheelchairs, scooters, walkers, or simply need accommodations to travel comfortably. Together, we talk through what they need so I can help make sure every part of their vacation is the right fit.

That might mean confirming an accessible hotel room truly meets their needs, selecting the right cruise stateroom, researching transportation, or looking into whether a shore excursion can accommodate a mobility device.

These aren't details I leave to chance because I know how important they are. Thoughtful planning gives my clients the confidence to focus on what really matters: enjoying their vacation. Everyone deserves the opportunity to create wonderful travel memories, and I'm honored to help make that happen.

"Where Can We Eat?"

One of my Disney families included vegetarian travelers.

Rather than hoping they'd find something once they arrived, I spent time researching restaurant menus before they ever packed their suitcases. By the time they walked through the park gates, they already knew where they could enjoy meals together.

Vacation time is too valuable to spend wandering around hungry or frustrated. Sometimes the smallest details create the biggest smiles.

"I Didn't Even Think to Ask That."

This might be my favorite kind of conversation.

Questions about passport requirements. Whether a flight home is too early after a cruise. When online check in opens. If a cabin location is a good choice. Whether travel insurance makes sense. How much time to allow between flights.

These aren't questions everyone knows to ask. That's okay. Part of my job is thinking about those questions before my clients even realize they have them.

The Work You Never See

When people picture a travel advisor, they often imagine someone booking cruises, hotels, or flights. Yes, I do those things.

But so much of my work happens quietly behind the scenes: double checking details, sending reminders, researching answers, following up, and looking ahead to the next step before my clients even have to think about it.

Most of it never appears on an itinerary, doesn't show up on an invoice, and certainly doesn't make it into anyone's vacation photos. But it's often the reason a vacation feels effortless instead of stressful.

Why These Phone Calls Mean So Much to Me

Over the years, I've planned cruises, Disney vacations, all inclusive escapes, Alaska adventures, European journeys, and countless other trips. But when I think about the vacations I'm most proud of, I don't immediately think about the destinations.

I think about the relieved client who realized everything was going to be okay. The first time flyer who boarded with confidence. The traveler who knew their hotel, cruise, and excursions would truly meet their accessibility needs. The family that could simply enjoy dinner together because someone had already done the research.

People sometimes ask me what I enjoy most about being a travel advisor.

Of course, I love helping clients discover incredible destinations and plan unforgettable vacations. But that's not what brings me the greatest joy.

It's hearing the relief in someone's voice when we've found a solution. It's helping a nervous traveler feel confident before they even leave home. It's knowing a family can simply enjoy their vacation because someone took care of the details. It's receiving a message after they return home telling me they had an amazing time.

Those moments remind me that I'm not just planning vacations. I'm helping create memories that will last a lifetime.

Years from now, you probably won't remember your boarding pass or your confirmation number.

You'll remember watching your children experience Disney for the first time. Standing in front of an Alaskan glacier. Laughing over dinner with the people you love. Watching the sunset from the deck of a cruise ship. Celebrating an anniversary in a place you've always dreamed of visiting.

Those are the memories that last.

So if you're ever traveling and find yourself thinking...

"I hope I'm not bothering Brenda..."

Please don't.

Helping my clients before, during, and after their vacation isn't an interruption.

It's one of the reasons I love what I do.

Because the best vacations aren't just well planned.

They're well supported.

When in doubt, always take the trip.
